The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk says that the current situation in Pakistan is a cause of deep concern, the rule of law in Pakistan is under serious threat.

While addressing a press conference in Geneva, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, said that the news of increasing violence and mass arrests in Pakistan is disturbing.

He said that the Pakistani government’s intention to use military courts to try civilians is a grave violation of its obligations under international human rights law.

Volker Turk further said that former Prime Minister Imran Khan claims that Pakistan has been pushed into complete lawlessness. The only path to a safe and prosperous Pakistan will be paved with respect for human rights, democratic processes, and the rule of law.
