General Charles Q. Brown, who is black, was named the new chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the US Army.
US President Joe Biden announced the nomination of the new Chief, General Brown is currently the Chief of Staff of the US Air Force.
General Brown will be the second black chief in American history, having been previously held by General Colin Powell.
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley will retire in September and will be succeeded by General Charles Q. Brown.
It should be noted that for the first time in American history, the Secretary of Defense and the Chief of Staff will be black.
