A passenger train has crashed in India, killing nine people.
Nine people have been confirmed dead and more than 40 injured after a passenger train derailed in West Bengal state, according to Indian media reports.
An Indian Railways spokesman said three bogies of a passenger train derailed, injuring 45 people and killing nine.
Rescuers said the bogies were removed from the tracks and cleared after the rescue operation was completed at the crash site, while train service resumed in the area.
According to media reports, the train was travelling from Assam to Rajasthan when an accident occurred in Jalpeguri district and the injured were being treated in hospital.
The Indian Ministry of Railways has launched an investigation into the accident and has announced financial assistance to the deceased’s heirs.
