6.1 magnitude earthquake shakes Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa

Severe tremors were felt in the northern areas including the federal capital Islamabad, Punjab and Peshawar.

According to sources, strong tremors were also felt in Multan, Bhakkar, Phalia, Kamalia Kohat, Shabqadar, Mohmand Malakand, Swat and Buner last night.

Besides, tremors were also felt in Mianwali, Pakpattan and Bhairah.

The US Geological Survey said the quake had a magnitude of 6.1 and its epicenter was on the Pakistan-Afghanistan border while the depth of the quake was 54 km.

The quake was felt for 30 to 40 seconds, residents said.

It is to be noted that no loss of life or property has been reported so far as a result of the quake.
