VIDEO. In Bordeaux, for 16 years, this couple has been making their garden the illuminated lair of Santa Claus

Every evening without exception, Marie-Christine and Angel light up their garden for the end of year celebrations with objects accumulated since 2005.

It is 6 p.m. on Monday, December 20, 2021 when the garden of Marie-Christine and Angel Vega lights up christmas colors.

Every evening until 10 p.m., their house in the heart of Bordeaux becomes Father Christmas’s lair.

Garlands light up the trees, Santa Claus and snowmen share a piece of grass. A real miniature ski resort comes alive under a shelter. “Merry Christmas” are projected on the walls and Christmas carols echo throughout the garden.

A passion first

“I didn’t have much of a chance to decorate when I was little so I’m making it up today,” says Angel.

It took the two Bordelais 15 days to install all the garlands and animations stored in the cellar since last year.

“It’s becoming more and more difficult to install everything… You have to bend down and at my age, it’s complicated,” adds the 69-year-old man.

The garden also evolves over the years. Apart from the LED bulbs to be changed or the cables to be renewed, the couple continues to add more decor to their park of lights each year.

“I think we’re going to stop here because we don’t have enough room,” adds Angel, laughing.

“The neighbors like it a lot”

Tenant of an apartment and a garden giving access to four other accommodations, the retired couple receives every year many compliments on their decoration: “People come by and they are happy to see that, especially the children. “

Sometimes the youngest get whimsical because they don’t want to leave.

They nevertheless regret that their decorations cannot be visible to everyone from the street.

Decorations also in summer

Christmas or not, all means are good to make their garden unique. In summer it is also decorated. But this time, not in Christmas colors.

“We put animals, flowers, dwarves … We love it”, explains the former welder.

An annual ritual that has become a passion for the retired couple, who hope to repeat the show next year.
