Islamabad (Daily Pakistan Online) A five-member bench of the Supreme Court has suspended the notification of the establishment of the Audio Leaks Commission, and issued a restraining order on the order and proceedings of the commission.
The Supreme Court has said that the consultation of the Chief Justice is necessary for the nomination of judges in any judicial commission. The direct nomination of judges by the government raised doubts on the judges. The government is not authorized to interfere in the affairs of the judiciary. Consultation on nomination of Chief Justice of High Courts is mandatory under the principle of federalism.
The Supreme Court has adjourned the hearing of the case till May 31 while preventing the commission from working, while notices have also been issued to all the parties.
Petitions were filed against the inquiry commission by Imran Khan, President Supreme Court Bar Abid Zubiri, Riyaz Hanif Rahi and Muqtadar Shabbir, seeking annulment of the notification of formation of the alleged audio inquiry commission.
