The International Court of Justice has issued an arrest warrant for the Russian President for ‘war crimes’

Washington: The International Criminal Court (ICC) has issued an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin on charges of war crimes based on his alleged involvement in the abduction of children from Ukraine.

According to the English-Arabia report, the court said in a statement that the Russian president is allegedly responsible for the war crime of illegal deportation of children and illegal transfer of children from the occupied territories of Ukraine to the Russian Federation.

Earlier, the ICC had also issued a warrant for the arrest of Maria Alekseevna, Commissioner for Children’s Rights at the headquarters of the Russian Federation, on similar charges. It should be noted that Moscow does not recognize the jurisdiction of the ICC.

Ukraine is also not an ICC member state, but Kiev has granted ICC jurisdiction over its territory, and ICC prosecutor Karim Khan has visited four times since launching the investigation a year ago.

The court statement said there are reasonable grounds to believe that the Russian president committed criminal acts individually, jointly with others or through others to abduct the children.
