The Guild developers join TheGraph and prepare for the next quest

Priority over The Guild – The vast majority of cryptocurrency projects are developed in open source. Indeed, these are developed by developers and independent teams. In some cases, the contributions of a developer are such that they are recruited into the main development team. Today, TheGraph grabbed the team at The Guild.

TheGraph is a project that aims to democratize the use of technology GraphQL on blockchains. In detail, GraphQL is a technology developed by Facebook since 2012 and unveiled to the general public in 2015.

Like many projects of this scale, GraphQL is under MIT license, implying that anyone can modify and improve the source code.

In practice, GraphQL allows you to perform complex data queries. As part of a blockchain, GraphQL allows, for example, to retrieve data from an arbitrary block mined in the past. This tool is particularly useful for developers, who can use it as an API to develop a product, without having to host a full node to access blockchain data.

“TheGraph is an indexing protocol for querying networks, such as Ethereum and IPFS. Anyone can build and publish open APIs, called subgraphs, that make data easily accessible. “

Statement by TheGraph

Indeed, TheGraph is deployed on many blockchains, such as Ethereum (ETH), Binance Smart Chain (BSC) or several Ethereum second layer solutions.

TheGraph débauche The Guild

On Wednesday, December 15, TheGraph teams announced a $ 48 million grant to the developer group The Guild. Therefore, after actively contributing to the development of tools for TheGraph, The Guild will now join the core development team.

“The Guild is now making a long-term commitment to The Graph project to develop the basic functionality of subgraphs and make GraphQL accessible to as many people as possible in Web3. “

Announcement of TheGraph

For its part, The Guild has extensive experience in GraphQL technology. Its team of developers has been one of the most active in the GraphQL ecosystem for 6 years now.

In fact, The Guild will have to work on 6 main axes:

  • the Scheme Prototypes : a collaboration with TheGraph Foundation and other teams to produce the Schema Prototyper;
  • The composition of subgraphs : the development of functionalities allowing developers to perform queries on data coming from several compound subgraphs;
  • L’to analyse and theaggregation : design and implementation of a solution for the analysis and aggregation of data at the time of indexing and querying;
  • The mutations : designing and implementing mutations as a supported GraphQL feature;
  • The subscriptions (v2) : improvement of the subscription functionalities in the sub-graphs for better data retrieval in real time;
  • L’GraphQL API : the development of the existing API with other teams to unlock new functionalities in order to improve the development of subgraphs;
  • the porting common GraphQL JS libraries to Rust : Porting some APIs to Rust to unlock integrations with Graph Node and other Web3 protocols to deploy features, such as assembly and schema transformations.

Grant distribution is commonplace in the crypto ecosystem. Indeed, it allows foundations managing crypto projects to allocate funds to teams actively involved in development. For example, the Ethereum Foundation just distributed $ 153 million to customer development teams for Ethereum 2.0.
