T20 World Cup, England defeated Sri Lanka to reach the semi-finals
Sydney (92 News) – England defeated Sri Lanka by 4 wickets in the T20 World Cup Group One match. England also qualified for the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup.
Sri Lanka set a total of 141 runs in the allotted 20 overs, opener Patham Nissanka was the top scorer by scoring 67 runs off 45 balls with the help of 5 sixes and 2 fours, Bhanuka Rajapaksa scored 22 runs and Kaushal Mendis scored 18 runs.
On behalf of England, Mark Wood took 3 wickets, Ben Stokes, Chris Wokies, Sam Curran and Adil Rashid took one wicket each.
In reply, England team achieved the set target by scoring 144 runs for 6 wickets in 19.4 overs, Alex Hales scored an innings of 47 runs, Ben Stokes played an unbeaten innings of 42 runs to lead the team to victory. Opener Josh Buttler scored 28 runs.
For Sri Lanka, Lahiru Kumara, Venendu Hasringa De Silva and Dhananjaya De Silva got 2 wickets each.
Adil Rashid was declared as the player of the match for England’s brilliant bowling.
Defending champions and hosts Australia are out of the T20 World Cup. New Zealand, England and Australia have 7.7 points on the Group One points table. New Zealand and England reached the semi-finals on the basis of better run rates.
