Supreme Court ruling calls into question future of students studying in illegal campuses

Following the Supreme Court’s order, the future of students studying in illegal campuses of private universities across the country was called into question.

According to the Higher Education Commission’s website, there are 97 illegal campuses in Punjab, 36 in Sindh, 11 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, 3 in Azad Kashmir and one in Islamabad.

It may be recalled that today the Supreme Court has directed the Higher Education Commission (HEC) to close down the illegal campuses of private universities across the country.

The court said that HEC should provide degrees to the students who pass out from the illegal campuses of the universities under special procedure, ensure uniform implementation of policies across the country, there is no compromise on the provision of higher education to the young generation.
