Peshawar (Daily Pakistan Online) Elections are being held on a vacant Senate seat from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where polling is underway which will continue till 4 pm today.
The Senate seat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has become vacant due to the resignation of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Senator Ayub Afridi. Muhammad Saeed of PPP and Zahir Shah of JUI-F.
Numerically, Shaukat Tareen is a strong candidate for the Senate seat as the PTI has 94 members in the 145-member provincial assembly. The second largest party in the Provincial Assembly is JUI-F with 15 members, ANP 12, PML-N 7, Pakistan Peoples Party 5 and Balochistan Awami Party 4.
In the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, Jamaat-e-Islami has three candidates and PML-Q has one, while four members are independents.
More than 50% of the votes in the 145-member House, or 73 votes, are required for any candidate to be elected a senator, and these numbers are only available to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf.
