Peshawar (Daily Pakistan Online) Local body elections will be held in 66 tehsils of 17 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today for which all preparations have been completed.

A total of 19,285 candidates are in the fray for the Village and Neighborhood Council in 17 districts. The number of women candidates will be 3,870, laborers and farmers 7,428, youth 6,011 and 293 candidates for minority seats.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa local body elections, 2,032 candidates have won unopposed. The highest number of candidates won 876 seats for women. 500 candidates in youth seats, 285 in farmers’ seats, 217 in general seats and 154 in minority seats have been declared uncontested.

In the 17 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where local body elections will be held, the total number of registered voters is more than 12.668 million. The number of male voters is 70 lakh 15 thousand 767 while the number of female voters is 56 lakh 53 thousand 95.

The polling will start at 8:00 am and will continue till 5:00 pm without any break. Nine thousand 223 polling stations and 28 thousand 892 polling booths have been set up for local body elections. Four thousand 188 polling stations have been declared sensitive while two thousand 507 have been declared highly sensitive. 77,000 police personnel have been deployed for security in the local body elections. In Peshawar alone, more than 11,000 police officers will be on duty.
