Astana (Daily Pakistan Online) The Central Asian country of Kazakhstan has filed a claim of around 2.3 trillion tenge ($5.14 billion) in environmental protection fines against the Kashagan Oil Venture.
Bloomberg News, citing the country’s Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources, reported that the ministry has accused the North Caspian Operating Company (NCOC), which operates Kashagan, of exceeding the amount of sulfur allowed at the site. More than twice as much.
Kashagan, one of Kazakhstan’s largest oil fields, had its production cut in half for about two months last year due to a gas leak, the field has now fully restored production.
