Indian government’s decision to abolish all Cantonment Boards across the country

The Central Government of India has decided to abolish all 62 Cantonment Boards in the country.

According to Indian media, a notification was issued on April 27 to change the status of the cantonment by the central government.

According to the notification, the urban areas falling under the Cantonment Boards will be handed over to the municipal bodies and the army areas will be converted into military stations, thus ending the British colonial era cantonment system in India.

According to Indian media, there are currently 62 Cantonment Boards in India.

According to the report, the removal of the cantonment boards will start from the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh, which is bordering China, and the cantonment will soon be converted into a military station.
