ISLAMABAD (Daily Pakistan Online): The government is likely to increase holding tax on telecom sector, which will make internet and other services more expensive.
Private TV Geo News, citing sources, claimed that the government was considering a five per cent increase in holding tax on the telecom sector. If this decision is implemented, the holding tax will increase from 10% to 15% and other services including internet will become more expensive.
Sources in the telecom sector say that the government is now going to increase the holding tax but earlier the government had promised to reduce it by eight per cent. At present, 187 million people in Pakistan are using telecom services, of which 98% are prepaid.
