Riyadh: Torrential rains in Saudi Arabia led to flooding that killed two people while suspending flights and closing schools.

According to the World News Agency, the heavy rain that started yesterday in the western region of Saudi Arabia is still continuing in some places. Due to the rains, the low-lying areas started to look like ponds.

The rain water swept away dozens of cars like a flood relay. The highway from Jeddah to Makkah was closed due to the rapid flow of water on the roads, while flights were suspended due to flooding at the airport.

The rains disrupted business and life and schools were closed. According to the information received so far, 2 people have died and many others have been injured. Dozens of vehicles and a few houses have been damaged.

Task forces and equipment have been deployed across Makkah, 52 water tanks with a capacity of about 2 gallons are engaged to remove the water accumulated on the roads.

Besides, 146 excavators and 89 multi-purpose trucks are busy dealing with the effects of rain and removing water from roads and streets. The municipality is engaged in rapid relief operations to clear the road from Jeddah to Makkah as soon as possible.

It should be noted that Makkah has a huge rainwater drainage system that reaches about 540 km and covers all the neighborhoods and holy places in the area.
