Dr Tahir Shamsi, a blood specialist, died in Karachi
Karachi (92 News) Dr Tahir Shamsi, a blood specialist, passed away in Karachi.
Dr. Tahir Shamsi had a brain hemorrhage a few days ago. He has been on a ventilator since the operation at a private hospital.
Dr. Tahir Shamsi introduced bone marrow transplant in the country in 1996. He performed 650 bone marrow transplant operations and wrote more than 100 research articles.
Dr. Tahir Shamsi also had the honor of discovering a cure for corona patients from the plasma of those who recovered during the first wave of corona virus.
Dr. Tahir Shamsi established the National Institute for Blood Diseases in 2011 for the treatment of blood diseases. He was the Director of Stem Cell Program at NIBD and was also a Pathologist Fellow of Royal College.
Dr. Tahir Shamsi was also a member of the Government Medical Board during the treatment of Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in Lahore.
Dr. Tahir Shamsi was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016 by the Dow Grades Association of North America, a non-governmental organization of doctors in the United States.
